Elysia Dawn (GS ‘15, SPS ‘19) trained as a merit scholarship recipient at North Carolina School of the Arts, Miami City Ballet School, and The Washington School of Ballet. She attended summer programs at American Ballet Theater, Chautauqua School of Dance, and Rosella Hightower's Le Centre de Danse International in Cannes. Ms. Dawn was a member of Complexions Contemporary Ballet and performed with Boston Ballet, The Washington Ballet, and Les Grands Ballet Canadiens. With Boston Ballet, Ms. Dawn danced a variety of classical and Balanchine roles, and was also one of two dancers selected to perform with Mikhail Baryshnikov. With Complexions Contemporary Ballet, Ms. Dawn performed numerous leading roles including The Cyclical Hour, Moody Booty Blues, and Pretty Gritty Suite. Additional principal roles she performed include “My One and Only” in George Balanchine’s Who Cares?, Stanton Welch’s Orange, and Aurora's variation from The Sleeping Beauty. In her years with CBC, Ms. Dawn served as Director of Public Relations, Assistant Artistic Director, and Artistic Director and is a founding member of CBC’s Outreach Initiative and the Ivy Ballet Exchange. In recognition of her commitment to CBC’s advancement, Ms. Dawn received the Silver Crown Award and the Gold Crown Award from Columbia University’s King’s Crown Leadership Awards as well as a General Studies Service Award. She was academically recognized as a named scholarship recipient, was on Columbia University’s Dean’s List, and graduated cum laude in 2015 with a BA in Art History as well as a Special Concentration in Business Management. She received her MS in Nonprofit Management in 2019 while continuing her career in the arts. Since graduating, she’s been an invited panel speaker at Columbia University and served on the General Studies Alumni Association board.
