Nicholas Rio grew up in Berkeley, California, where he trained under Sally Streets at Berkeley Ballet Theater. There, he performed many roles from Streets' original work, including The Nutcracker, Haydn Ballet, Celebration and La Cirque Magnifique. Nicholas also danced Lar Lubovich's Eight Easy Pieces, work by Mark Bush, and excerpts from Giselle, Sleeping Beauty La Bayadere and Les Patineurs. He attended summer intensives at the Houston Ballet Academy and the San Francisco Ballet School. Nicholas is currently a second-year at Columbia College, with a planned major in Statistics. He joined Columbia Ballet Collaborative during his first semester.
